The staff at Westside Audiology Services, LLC are highly trained individuals in the care and rehabilitation of hearing disorders. We have solutions for practically all hearing losses, and provide compassionate and attentive care to the patients we treat. After your hearing is assessed by one of our audiologists, the results will be explained in a comprehensive, but understandable manner. If appropriate, the audiologist may present hearing aid options to you. It is important to know that both the circuitry and the style are individually chosen to fit your needs.
Circuitry – there are generally three levels of technology:
Complex – is the most advanced, and is suitable for patients who are in varied noise environments often.
Social – is the mid-line unit which is appropriate for patients who are moderately active (going to quiet restaurants, church, meetings).
Simple – is the technology for patients who lead sedentary lifestyles (conversing with one or two people at home and watching television).
Style – there are seven model offerings. A large percentage of our fittings fall into the “receiver in the ear” style as it has proven to be one of the most acoustically appealing devices. The style of the hearing device is chosen based on the amount of hearing loss, configuration of the audiogram, manual dexterity, and patient preference.
Our audiologists will guide you into making the right choice with all aspects of the hearing aid fitting.
There is a time of adjustment when you begin to wear hearing aids. After your initial fitting, you will return to our office a few times for follow up during your forty-five day trial period. One of the audiologists or the hearing aid dispenser will ensure that you progress well through this adjustment period. All of your concerns and questions will be addressed during this time.
Benefits differ from person to person in regards to the success with hearing aids. Hearing is a complicated sense, and unlike vision, we cannot restore hearing to “20/20” like an optometrist can often do with vision. The audiologist will give you an honest benefit appraisal at the outset.
Binaural amplification – when hearing loss is present in both ears, it is often optimal to wear two hearing aids. If a patient insists on pursuing only one, we counsel them regarding the limitations they can expect. Amplification in both ears is needed to filter out speech from noise, to create balance in sound, and lastly, for localization of where sound is coming from.
Caring for your hearing aid
A few simple steps will keep your hearing aids in good working order, and prevent unnecessary trips in to our office for servicing.
– Keep hearing aids free of earwax by using the cleaning tools that were provided to you with your initial hearing aid kit.
– When new to the hearing aid insertion and removal process, work over a towel spread out on your kitchen table to avoid having the hearing aids drop on a hard service.
– Keep the hearing aids away from moisture and extreme heat.
– Do not sleep, shower, bath, or swim with your hearing aids in.
– Open the battery doors on your hearing aids when not in use. A typical battery lasts one week, if you follow this practice.
All hearing aids come with a 45 day trial period. You are expected to pay for the hearing aid (s) in full at the time of your hearing aid fitting, but then have forty-five days to see if they are beneficial to you. If, at the end of the trial, you do not wish to keep the device (s) and do not want to try another unit, you will be refunded all that you’ve paid less $200 or 10% of the purchase price (whichever is less).
Our hearing aids all come with a three year warranty, which includes any visits to our office related to the hearing aid(s) for adjustments, counseling, and repairs. Also covered, is any factory servicing, and a one-time loss and damage replacement (with a manufacturer’s deductible charged). Beyond three year insurance coverage is available upon request.
Assisted Listening Devices
There can be times when hearing aids are not enough to enhance hearing. We offer other assistive listening devices, and have a staff member on hand to teach you how to use a unit if you decide to purchase a device from the following list:
- Telephone amplifiers
- Infrared TV listening systems
- Alarm alerting systems
- Companion microphones
- Personal hearing protection

Every patient’s hearing loss and hearing needs are different. If your next door neighbor has had a less than satisfactory experience with hearing aids, it doesn’t mean that you will. It is our job to educate you well about your hearing loss and the extent that we can help you. Technology alone doesn’t help people hear better. When you purchase hearing aids from us, we form a partnership. We will program your hearing devices to maximize your listening, but we may need to make adjustments as we progress along. In addition, we depend on you to properly care for the units, and also to understand reasonable limitations of the hearing aids. We are always available to answer questions by phone (or e-mail), or see you on short notice, if feasible, to ensure that you get the best benefit that the units can provide.
